Governor Palin summed up the State of the Union address with one word: “lecture.” She described a “fundamental disconnect between what the people are expecting with their government and what he wants to deliver.” Governor Palin said that though Obama spoke of common-sense solutions, such as off-shore drilling, he failed to work with Republicans — who had been advocating those solutions all along — to get them implemented. His speech failed to inspire, and did not speak of empowering the people. “He is still proposing top-down big government solutions when the people want empowerment for their business and families,” Governor Palin said.

Governor Palin said that Obama is not congruent with his own policies: lobbyists, transparencies, deficit spending. Of Justice Alito mouthing the words “not true” regarding Obama’s statements on campaign finance reform, Governor Palin said, “when we see an issue like this — words spoken that may not be true — coming from our President, embarrassing our Supreme Court and not respecting separation of powers, we have a problem, and that’s illustrated by that justice mouthing those words, “not true”.” She continued, “now one or the other is being disingenuous, either the President…or the Supreme Court Justice.”

On health care, Governor Palin, “ever since August, more and more people have paid attention and are concerned about the his health care bill.” She said his ability to explain the bill was not at issue, the American people don’t want a government take-over of health care and mandatory coverage. Governor Palin said that Americans perfectly understand the bill and do not like what is in there, and sent that message via three Republican sweeps in Virgina, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, the Tea Party movement and town hall meetings.

On national security, Governor Palin said, “only 10% of his speech was dedicated to national security, which she found concerning. Obama had the opportunity to speak out in defense of those who want democracy and freedom in Iran and he squandered it, Governor Palin said. She concluded by stating that people would continue to lose trust in him following a train of broken promises.

In many ways, history is repeating itself. One could imagine President Carter’s 1978 state of the union address and President Ronald Wilson Reagan’s response. Last night, our Reagan spoke.
