Governor Palin electrified the crowd of 6,000 at the Salina, KS Chamber of Commerce annual meeting February 5, 2010, according to Topeka Capital Journal reporter Barbara Holllingsworth, who covered the event (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶1, 4, 6).

Her speech focused on national security, energy independence, government bailouts and limited government (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶8). On national security, Governor Palin said:

The Obama administration, she said, has lost its way on foreign policy. She said people wonder if the United States is still a “beacon of hope” for freedom (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶17).

“We need a foreign policy that distinguishes America’s friends from her enemies and recognizes the true nature of these threats that we are facing,” Palin said (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶18).

On limited government, “she said Washington, D.C., politicians need to ‘back off.’ While Americans have lost jobs and learned to live with less, she charged that government has become more bloated” (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶12). Governor Palin continued, “Over the past year, Washington has replaced private irresponsibility with public irresponsibility” (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶13).

Governor Palin advanced her “all of the above” approach to energy independence and said we need to increase oil drilling here and now (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶15-16).

On health care reform, she said tort reform and the ability to purchase coverage across state lines is the solution, not a government takeover (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶14).

“In the end, her speech brought the crowd to its feet” (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶19).

Hollingsworth reported that Governor Palin was received like a rock star and she resonated with her audience with many saying the felt like she was one of them. Several traveled great distances to see her (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶20-23).

Governor Palin will be addressing the Tea Party Convention tonight at 9 PM EST with live coverage by both Fox News and MSNBC. She will return to Wichita, KS on May 2, 2010 to speak at a fund-raiser for a Christian school (Hollingsworth, 2010, ¶24).
