Gov. Palin surprise guest at Rastetter summer party in Iowa

According to the Des Moines Register, Sarah Palin is attending agribusiness leader Bruce Rastetter’s summer party and cookout tonight at his home in Hubbard in north-central Iowa. Invitations to Rastetter’s annual summer soiree are highly sought after by the movers and shakers in Republican politics, and not just those who are Iowans.

The invitation for the event promises music, the presentation of a philanthropy award and “special guests” but doesn’t mention Palin, the darling of many conservatives, especially in the tea party, after her 2008 vice presidential run and subsequent media and political stardom.

Rastetter is a prominent donor to Republican causes, a lead backer of Iowa ethanol ventures and a member of the Board of Regents.

Gov. Palin’s most recent public appearance in Iowa was at a September rally in Indianola, where her speech at the Tea Party event drew thousands from across the country to the town in central Iowa just 10 miles south of Des Moines.
