Sally Sheeran Heath, mother of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Molly, Heather, and Chuck was born today, October 26, 1940. The time of her birth is unknown. She is featured prominently in Our Sarah: Made in Alaska, co-authored by her husband, Chuck Heath, Sr. and her son, Chuck Heath, Jr..

In her 72 years, Sally Heath has seen much. World War II raged in her early years. She lived through the Kennedy assassination, and saw man land on the moon. She saw the beginning and end of our Space Shuttle program. Sally Heath and her husband worked in Fresh Kills after the 9/11 atrocities. But, Sally Heath did not merely live through history. She was and is part of it. Sally Heath got to see one of her daughters rise from being a local sports caster and commercial fisher to being the first woman to nominated as a VP running mate on the Republican ticket. The sonic booms of Sally Heath’s daughter have shattered many glass ceilings, and many more are yet to come.

Today, we pause to honor one of the last living elder matriarchs of the Heath and Palin families: Sally Heath. Daughter. Mother. Grandmother. Great Grandmother. Happy Birthday, Sally Heath and we hope to see many more years of you and your family shaping history and making the world a better place.
