“President Barack Obama on Wednesday called Alaska’s proposed natural gas pipeline “promising” as a national energy resource and pledged to discuss it with Canadian leaders during his Feb. 19 trip to Ottawa,” (Bolstad, 2009, ¶1) per Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s request, which was detailed a February 6, 2009 press release from Alaska’s Gubernatorial website (Pipeline, 2009) and discussed in a prior Gov Palin Urges Obama to Discuss Gas Pipeline.
Commentary
In the prior entry on this subject, the focus was on Governor Palin’s foreign policy experience and subject matter expertise in matters pertaining to energy sources. The focus now is on executive experience, because Governor Palin was successful in lobbying and working with not merely a political rival — but someone who politically is a mortal enemy — to achieve a positive result for the people of Alaska and for the United States as a whole. Obama agreed to include the pipeline on his meeting agenda with Canada’s Prime Minister precisely as Governor Palin had requested. This is a major accomplishment of which she should be proud.
When Governor Palin spoke about working with rivals for the common good with a servant’s heart, she was not just saying it to sound good. Governor Palin puts these words into practice every day.
Effective leaders get results and do so swiftly and decisively, and this accomplishment proves it.
