Ed. Note: “Vote Yes! Repeal the Giveaway” has reported that the number of signatures collected has reached 50,000.

Both Vote Yes! Repeal the Giveaway and AK Backbone have collected 40,000 signatures on their Repeal SB-21 petitions, paving the way for a repeal referendum to be put on the ballot for the August 26, 2014 election. ACES is one of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s core accomplishments. It was repealed after her successor, Gov. Parnell waged a three-year-long war against the tax system he once supported and pledged to uphold. Parnell’s SB-21 takes effect January 1, 2014, but if this referendum goes on the ballot and the Alaskan electorate votes yes on it, ACES will be reinstated.
